H2 Scale System โ€” FAQ

Are the scales waterproof?

The Model 357 Platform is rated for splashing. The indicator is not rated for any moisture and should be covered in the event of rain.

The H2 is rated for wet environments but is not rated for submersion.

What type of battery does the scale and 4" LED readout require?

Both use internal Lithium-Ion batteries. These are non-user-serviceable parts with an average lifespan of 3โ€“5 years.

For longest battery life, fully charge before storing. Unlike older battery chemistries, you do not need to run them completely dead โ€” keep them charged as much as possible.

Battery replacement cost: $45.00. Only the indicator needs to be shipped back, not the scale platform.

Can the system run completely on batteries (no AC power)?

Yes. The system can be run entirely on battery, including the LED readout.

The SS weigh table is only 10" square. Can any weigh basket be used?

Most people are nervous about the size at first but are completely satisfied after their first tournament. Any type of basket works. We also sell a collapsible basket worth checking out.

Repair Costs โ€” H2 Scale

How can I replace the battery myself?

If you have a newer H2 (most 2013 and newer models) you can order a replacement battery kit. Watch the beginning of the video below to check if your unit has a red connector inside โ€” that confirms it's user-serviceable.

Watch: Newer H2 Battery Watch: Older H2 Battery

If your unit does not have the red connector, send it in for service.

H2 Scale System โ€” Troubleshooting

Scale is weighing light

Check the following in order:

  1. Shroud is placed on the table and has the signal cord pinched between base and shroud. The cable should exit through the notched side of the shroud.
  2. The overload bolt has loosened and is touching the top plate of the scale. There should be 1/4" clearance between the bolt head and the table top.
  3. Misalignment of the table. Remove the shroud, turn upside down and test-weigh. If it now reads correctly, the shroud is rubbing the bottom plate. Loosen the load cell bolts and align the top plate to match the bottom plate.

Scale won't zero

Scale is locked: If there's weight on it (like a basket) and the scale is locked, press the ZERO button for 2 beeps to force a zero.

Wind or motion: The scale needs a stable state to zero. Wait until the motion arrow is no longer lit before pressing ZERO.

Scale is in NET mode: Press TARE to zero in NET mode. Note that some features like Auto Zero Tracking may not work in NET mode. We recommend operating exclusively in GROSS mode.

Platform not communicating: If the scale shows +RANGE, the platform is not connected. Check for a damaged connector, damaged cord, an unplugged connector, or the connector plugged into the wrong port on the bottom of the scale.

Scale Platform Pinout

4-Pin AMP connector from scale platform to H2 Scale:

PinColorSignal
1Green+Excitation
2Redโ€“ Out
3White+ Out
4Blackโ€“ Excitation

If the connector is damaged, most John Deere farm equipment dealerships can replace it. It's a 4-pin AMP connector with male pins, the same type used on John Deere speed sensors.

Model 357 Scale System โ€” FAQ

Can the Model 357 connect to a computer?

No. Only the H2 has the capability to connect to a computer for use with tournament software.

Regarding use in wet environments

The Model 357 is not rated for submersion or washdown. The table is designed to handle light rain, splashing, and wet fish.

The Model 357 Indicator is NOT rated for any moisture and should be covered completely if used in the rain.

Always fully dry the scale system before storing it in the watertight storage case. Storing it wet can trap moisture and cause problems.

Model 357 โ€” Troubleshooting

Scale stays on 50.00 at startup (never goes to 0.00)

Possible IssueWhat to Check
Motion on the scale Make sure the platform is empty, then turn the scale off and back on.
Scale saturated with water The indicator is not water-rated. If stored wet inside the case, the case acts as a steam chamber. Let the scale dry completely โ€” a day in the sun is ideal. This is generally not permanent damage.
Damaged load cell or cable If the scale still does not work after drying, the load cell(s) or cable may be damaged. Send the unit in for repair.

Weight measurements are inconsistent

  1. Check that all four platform feet are touching the surface evenly โ€” the scale needs to be level.
  2. Check for water saturation (see above). Dry completely before testing.
  3. If neither resolves it, the load cell or cable is likely damaged and the unit needs to be sent in.

H2 in Lbs/Oz mode โ€” Taysys won't read the scale

Taysys Tournament Keeper Version 7 does not support pounds and ounces output from the scale. Per Taysys:

"Version 7 does not support pounds and ounces from the scale at this time. Weights can be manually entered and may be the quickest solution."

For further assistance with Taysys Tournament Keeper Software, contact bob@taysys.com.

Error: "THE REQUESTED OPERATION REQUIRES ELEVATION"

Problem: When installing the Radio Hub driver on Windows 10, this error prevents installation.

Solution: Right-click the downloaded file and choose Run as administrator.

If you encounter this error you will likely also need to run Taysys software as administrator when selecting the COM port.

How to Make the Epson TM-U220 Roll Printer Auto-Cut Paper

  1. Open Printer Properties for the printer.
  2. Click the Printer Commands tab.
  3. In the box to the right of End Print Job, enter this exact string:
<0D0A1D>VB<20>

The 0 characters are the number zero, not the letter O. The < and > symbols are above the , and . keys on your keyboard.

Click Apply in the lower-right corner. Each ticket printed will now auto-cut through 90% of the paper width.

Downloaded Driver Won't Run โ€” Missing .exe Extension

Some browsers strip the file extension as a security measure. Simply rename the file to add .exe at the end.

Example: rename radio_hub_XP_to_8 to radio_hub_XP_to_8.exe, then run it again.
